Introducing a New Approach to Processing Teaching Materials for Teachers and Corporate Teams

In today's era of digital transformation, the need for concise, communicative learning video production has become a vital part of developing both corporate and academic training curricula.

While video-based learning materials are increasingly common across digital platforms, many practitioners still struggle to turn conventional teaching materials into dynamic video scripts.

Responding to that challenge, Monkey Melody held a mini webinar session on the topic of Turning Teaching Materials into Short, Engaging Video Scripts. The session was led by Mas Fajar, Multimedia Producer at Monkey Melody. The event drew an enthusiastic turnout of teachers and corporate representatives eager to learn something new.

Our hope was that through this event, participants would gain a fresh perspective on microlearning and come away understanding that producing even a short learning video script takes real skill in applying good writing technique. We also hoped it would inspire participants to explore more learning videos for inspiration they could bring back into their own teaching.

3 Tactical Approaches to Scriptwriting-Based Learning Video Production

In this event, Mas Fajar opened by showing a few examples of learning videos from Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, to illustrate just how common short learning videos have become today.

He then walked through three approaches you can try to craft an engaging learning video script.

1. Deconstructing and Analyzing Raw Teaching Materials

First, existing teaching materials need to be revisited and broken down into pieces that suit a video format. Raw material like modules and presentations is often not originally designed with video in mind, so it takes a deliberate process of analysis and breakdown around the relevant topics and sub-topics.

2. Structuring the Script Around a Compelling Hook

Second, Mas Fajar covered the basics of making a script's structure more engaging. As you've probably noticed, formal writing tends to follow a fairly traditional structure. Engaging videos, by contrast, usually open with a hook designed to grab the viewer's attention โ€” an anecdote, a common question, a real-life case, and so on.

3. Using Natural Spoken Language

Finally, an engaging video is, of course, carried by a presenter with an engaging delivery. Mas Fajar gave several examples of rewriting formal sentences into ones that sound far more like natural, spoken language.
