Teaching Recordings Are Still an Underused Resource
Many companies are now comfortable with online training/learning systems. Yet the habit of recording sessions and reusing those recordings as teaching material still isn't a fully standard practice. According to a 2022โ2023 Kaltura report, only 35% of companies actively repurpose their training/learning session recordings into new material.
95% of organizations that repurpose video say the content's useful life can last up to 6 months, with some lasting over a year. In other words, a single recording can be used again and again, making it far more efficient than repeating a session from scratch every time.
There are several reasons why companies may not yet be making use of their video recordings. For instance, they may not know where to start because they lack sufficient multimedia expertise. Even if the task is delegated to another team, there may not be a creative team available to process the existing footage.
3 Ways to Turn Teaching Recordings into Other Digital Content
- Turned into Social Media Content
Take one topic from a teaching session, then look for moments that feel essential or compelling. Cut and combine them into a short video of no more than 1 minute. Where possible, a little editing plus added motion graphics can make the video more engaging. This short video can be uploaded to the company's Instagram, LinkedIn, or TikTok. - Used as a Recap for the Next Session
If the training spans multiple sessions, a portion of the previous recording can serve as an introductory video before a new topic begins. This helps learners stay connected and remember the context of the discussion. - Converted into Modular Learning Videos
Similar to social media content, select the important parts of the recording, edit them, then rearrange them into a short-form learning video. Unlike social media content, the duration can run longer as long as the segments stay relevant and coherent. The final result can be uploaded into the company's LMS as part of asynchronous training.

Of course, not every recording can be reused right away. The key lies in careful curation and editing. Quite a few recordings are technically not quite usable, whether in terms of audio or visual quality. For example, if the audio has too much noise or the visuals are blurry, technical fixes are needed before the material is fit to use as teaching content.
