The Monki Nongki External Session on AI in Multimedia Production
Corporate Learning & Development (L&D) teams often face challenges in speeding up the production of high-quality learning multimedia for employee training needs. Fast-changing business needs push an equally fast need for production processes.
Applying AI to training development is an option many companies have been exploring over the past few years. Recognizing this, Monkey Melody held a Monki Nongki event titled "AI in Multimedia Production" in a hybrid format, as a space to discuss how AI is being used specifically in the multimedia production workflow.
This session featured two multimedia industry practitioners: Septian Pamungkas from Monkey Melody and Hafidh Idris from Afterclass Corner.

Using AI in Learning Video Production: Workflow Efficiency Without Losing the Human Touch

These days, anyone can create an eye-catching image or video just by typing a prompt. But that technical ease has turned visual polish into something ordinary.
Because of that, what actually makes a piece of training content succeed is the production team's deep understanding of the problem's context, along with genuine empathy for the learners.
Mas Hafidh underscored the principle: "Think like a human, explore with AI." Don't let that principle flip around, letting AI do the thinking for us while humans become mere technical operators.
In other words, the part of the work that AI can take over is labour work that's repetitive and doesn't require intuitive judgment. Technical tasks that can be handed to AI include the following:
-
- Creating early visual mockups (pre-visualization) to preview lighting setups or video backgrounds.
-
- Cleaning up or removing distracting background elements from green screen footage.
-
- Writing simple automated code, such as JavaScript, for media interactivity needs.
-
- Automatically transcribing and summarizing long reference material.
By handing off these technical tasks to AI, module designers free up more time to build a stronger narrative. The result: production moves much faster without sacrificing story quality.

Monkey Melody Case Study: Rapid Prototyping and the Interactive Simulator
Mas Septian then shared the Monkey Melody team's firsthand experience integrating AI into their multimedia workflow. One of the main examples he showcased was an Interactive Case Study Simulator project for corporate communication training.

Normally, building a case-study simulation module requires a large development team and a long production timeline. Yet the best way for corporate employees to learn is through direct, interactive practice.
Through a rapid prototyping approach, Monkey Melody combined several AI technologies to build this simulation system:
-
Anthropic Claude: Used in the early conceptualization stage, breaking down the script's logic, and fixing application code.
-
OpenRouter API: Flexibly connects various AI models to the application's back end.
-
Gemini: Used to analyze reference videos and automatically transcribe text.
-
ElevenLabs: Used for voice cloning and generating natural-sounding Text-to-Speech output.

In the app demo, training participants could play the role of an HR manager handling an employee complaint. Participants simply spoke into a microphone. A Speech-to-Text system converted their voice into text, which an LLM then processed to generate a relevant response.
That text response from the AI was then converted back into speech in real time through a Text-to-Speech feature. This setup gives learners an experience that's varied, unpredictable, and very close to a real workplace situation.
Developing this interactive simulator shows that artificial intelligence can drastically cut down research and prototyping time. That means L&D teams can test a module concept with users before committing to full production.

The Authentic Human Touch Is Still Essential

The interactive discussion session at the Mongki Nongki event sparked plenty of interesting questions from participants, both those attending in Bandung and those joining via Zoom. Mas Septian and Mas Hafidh agreed that AI does have fundamental limitations, such as a lack of understanding of a company's cultural values and emotional sensitivity.
Employees at a company don't just learn from rows of data or polished charts. They're moved by stories of failure, struggle, and real experience from their seniors or colleagues.
That's why the core message of this Monki Nongki event was to encourage every multimedia and L&D practitioner to embrace AI wisely. Use AI as a versatile assistant to handle time-consuming technical work. But keep full control over the story and the message you want to deliver.
