Building a genuinely effective interactive platform doesn't have to be expensive or require a large technical team. With the right simple tools, an ordinary learning video can feel a lot more alive.
Interactivity Drives Higher Engagement and Retention
Building a genuinely effective interactive platform doesn't have to be expensive or require a large technical team. With the right simple tools, an ordinary learning video can feel a lot more alive.
We know that the more engaged employees are in the learning process, the more likely they are to absorb and retain the material. According to a 2024 global survey by Kaltura, 55% of education professionals consistently use interactive quizzes in digital learning. And this trend is clearly making its way into the corporate world too.
Is it just quizzes? Not at all. Interactive elements like chatbots, simulations, and branching stories have also proven effective at boosting retention. Why? Because learners aren't just passively receiving information โ they're also interacting with and experimenting with the content they're learning.
At Monkey Melody, we've helped clients build interactive, case-study-based videos on several occasions. The format we use most often is the visual novel, where learners follow a story told through simple visuals accompanied by voiceover audio and dialogue text. At certain points, learners are given the chance to choose an action that shapes how the story unfolds.
Every decision they make has consequences, shaping the course of the story and even its ending. So learners aren't just absorbing theory โ they directly experience its impact through the story they live out. The result feels more engaging and more relevant, which helps learners absorb the material more effectively.

A Simple Tool: Meet H5P
All of the interactivity described above can be built using a tool called H5P. What exactly is H5P? H5P is an open-source platform that lets you create a wide range of interactive content without needing to be a coding expert. It can be integrated with popular LMS platforms like Moodle, or used entirely on its own.

Here are a few H5P formats that work especially well for corporate learning.
๐น Multiple Choice
This is the most basic quiz format, but it's effective for testing learner comprehension. We can place a quiz anywhere it's needed. For example, once learners finish sub-topic B and before they move into sub-topic C, we can insert a multiple-choice quiz before they continue.
๐น Fill in the Blanks
Similar to Multiple Choice, this is another classic quiz format. Learners fill in the missing parts of a sentence or paragraph. It's well suited for reinforcing conceptual understanding.
๐น Drag & Drop
If you want a more engaging quiz format, Drag & Drop is a great option. It can be used for matching exercises, sequencing a process, identifying components within an image, and more.
๐น Branching Scenario
This format works well for case studies or dilemma-based training. We can build out multiple decision points that require learners to choose. Depending on what they choose, the storyline plays out differently.
๐น Interactive Book
This digital-book-style format can hold video, quizzes, text, and other media within a single, well-organized structure.
๐น Timeline
A timeline is especially useful for presenting a process, a history, or a chronological development in an engaging visual format.
Interactivity doesn't have to be complicated. Start simple, then see the results for yourself.
